Founded in the year of 02, Nervous and the Kid is Micayla Nestor, Michele Hannigan, Andrew Bolton, and Chris Bolton. They are a hodge-podge of twenty-something, ex-Californians, nail-biters and ping-pong champions. In early 2000 they hit that northern highway in hopes of finding a state where you don't have to pump your own gas or pay sales tax. Low and behold they found Portland, where the rent is cheap, the jobs are scarce and well ... the rain is plenty.
Their music has elicited comparisons to rock groups such as the Velvet Underground or Neutral Milk Hotel, to folk and county outfits such as the Carter Family or Palace Brothers. Despite such flattery, they do their best to maintain a unique character and quirkiness all our own. This is patchwork rock-in-rocking-chair music. It's quirky, spare, melodic, thoughtful, sloppy, friendly, psychedelic, and a little country.
Nervous And The Kid's self titled debut was a limited run of 500. It contains nine extremely catchy songs and a beautiful hand silkscreened cover (which comes in different shades). TURN 011 is officially sold out but there are some to be had at Nervous And The Kid shows. |
